UBC Teaching & Learning Project Awarded by MERLOT Editorial Board

UBC Studios, in collaboration with faculty and students from the UBC School of Social Work, produced a series of scripted video vignettes showing conversations between social workers and a clients. The videos are used as an effective teaching tool to introduce students to counselling communication skills in UBC classrooms, and further afield through the public posting of the videos on Youtube.

An educational media project that features videos produced by UBC Studios has been awarded the 2022 MERLOT Classics Award for Psychology by the Editorial Board for MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resources for Learning and Online Teaching).

 

UBC Studios, in collaboration with faculty and students from the UBC School of Social Work, produced a series of scripted video vignettes showing conversations between social workers and a clients. The videos are used as an effective teaching tool to introduce students to counselling communication skills in UBC classrooms, and further afield through the public posting of the videos on Youtube. The resulting videos have been viewed over 10,000 times.
 
This project also represents an effective collaboration with staff from the UBC Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology as they supported the learning design of the videos and the website context where the videos are presented, including related online teaching guides.
 
As a result of the award, the collaborating faculty have also been invited to present at the Online Learning Consortium Innovate 2022 Conference.
