General Questions

A: Please fill out the form on our contact us form with booking dates and times, please also provide a few possible dates, and a one liner summarizing the purpose of your recording. As many of our studio spaces doubles as part of our professional services or requires an operator, the booking is handled manually by our office staff.

A: Use of space is restricted to UBC purposes, either for a specific UBC course or for a UBC department. To confirm this, please have your UBC Faculty/Staff supervisor send us an email confirming the use of the space to ubc.studios@ubc.ca.

A: As we are department under UBC, we are required to make sure that all bookings are directly related to the university and its goals. While we encourage individuals to pursue and create media, personal projects would unfortunately not fall under this category. We recommend looking into the Inspiration Lab provided by the Vancouver Public Library (https://www.vpl.ca/facilities/inspiration-lab/record) or renting gear from the Chapman Learning Commons. (https://learningcommons.ubc.ca/tech-support/equipment-lending/).

A: Our main production studios is reserved for UBC Studios productions only.

A: UBC Studios currently does not offer ISDN livehits as a service. For Audio requests, please contact the UBC on campus radio station CiTR (https://www.citr.ca/contact/) for more information.

We do offer to do basic audio recording if it will be used for a pre-recorded interview/tape syncing on the broadcaster end via our DIY Audio Desk.

A: UBC Event livestream, webcasting and conference recording is offered through UBC AV services. Please contact the UBCIT AV helpdesk at av.helpdesk@ubc.ca or (604) 822-7956 for more information or to connect with their webcast team.

A: There is a 1 dimension 10x10 feet greenscreen located in our DIY Recording Studio. The greenscreen in our K.Karasin studio is only available for use on UBC Studio Projects.

A: Thank you for your interest! For any full time openings – please regularly check UBC Career’s HR page. Jobs for UBC Studios and Emerging Media Lab will be posted under the department UBCIT Creative Media. You can also follow us on Social Media as we advertise positions that need to be filled.

If you are a student, we actively participate in the UBC Co-op programs offered through most faculties and actively post co-op positions related to Studio Operations, Production Assistants and more!

We also often do call outs to find extras for our shoots – if you’re interested to be added onto a list feel free to send us an email, or keep a lookout on our social media handles for when we do so.

A: The main studio space is intended for UBC Studios projects only. Unfortunately, we are unable to rent the space for other purposes at this time. You can try booking with the UBC Photography Society.
