Shakespeare’s First Folio Handling Protocol Video

The Challenge

Shakespeare’s First Folios are a living glimpse into the history of western culture. UBC‘s acquisition of one of the original First Folios is a momentous event in the history of the University, creating a rare opportunity for UBC researchers and students. Preserving this fragile resource for future generations, while providing access for researchers and students, are high priorities for the UBC Library and the University.

WHAT WE DID

  • Creative Production
  • Script Development
  • Motion Graphics
  • Multi-Language Delivery

Preserving and Revealing a Cultural Treasure

Our producer and cinematographer worked with the Rare Books and Special Collections team at UBC Library to plan a video that would introduce the significance the First Folio and show safe handling techniques and tools.

This was an opportunity for our team to capture and share the intricate and rare beauty of a cultural treasure, while supporting its preservation at the same time. Starting with creative and script development, through managing location filming at UBC Library’s historic Pena Room, we created an opportunity for the wider University community and the general public to experience this fascinating and beautiful artifact.

The Outcome

Combining creatively filmed live action with motion graphics, the video is more than instructional. It also represents the unique quality of the Library’s Rare Books and Special Collections through this cultural treasure, and by extension the preeminence of the University’s resources, to viewers at UBC and around the world.
