Why 3D?
UBC’s rare and unique collections of specimens and artifacts are crucial to learning and research, but providing access while maintaining their integrity is challenging. UBC Studios has addressed this challenge by offering 3D scanning and virtual model production, which is especially useful given the growing need for remote access to learning and research resources.
The Outcome
The resulting online assets provide ease of access for any number of students and researchers from any location, at UBC and beyond. The resulting 3D interactive, highly detailed and accurate perspectives often provide more detail and visual information than the in-person experience, as a result of high-resolution scanning and reproduction.
