General Questions

Professional Services

A: Our mandate is to provide services to organizations and departments within UBC or has a direct affiliation to UBC, such as Vancouver Coastal Health or BC Children’s Hospital. We also work with other public institutions and government projects that have an established connection with UBC faculty, staff, or researchers.

A: Yes, we provide brand-aligned photography services for official UBC purposes. You can see examples and learn more at ubcstudios.ubc.ca/photography. UBC also has a dedicated Brand Photographer, and you can find their guidelines and contact information at brand.ubc.ca/guidelines/photography.

A: Our main production studio is reserved for UBC Studios productions only.

A: We do not offer ISDN Livehit services.

Audio: Contact UBC’s campus radio station CiTR for assistance.

Video: Contact UBC Media Relations.

We can provide basic audio recording for pre-recorded interviews or tape syncs via our DIY Audio Desk.

A: Livestreaming, webcasting, and conference recording are handled by UBC AV Services. Contact the AV Helpdesk at av.helpdesk@ubc.ca or 604-822-7956 to connect with their webcast team.

A: The main studio is reserved for UBC Studios projects. For photography needs outside of our services, consider reaching out to the UBC Photography Society.

Full-time roles: Check the UBC Careers page for positions listed under UBCIT Creative Media.

Student co-op: We regularly post co-op positions for studio operations, production assistants, and related roles through faculty co-op programs.

Extras for shoots: Follow us on social media or email us to be added to our extras list.

DIY Studios

A: Please complete our Contact Us form with your preferred booking dates and times, along with a few alternate options. Include a one-line summary of your project. As some of our spaces are also used for professional services or require an operator, all bookings are reviewed and confirmed manually by our staff.

A: DIY Studios can only be booked for UBC-related purposes, such as a specific course or departmental project. Please have your UBC faculty or staff supervisor email ubc.studios@ubc.ca to confirm the booking is for official university use.

A: As a UBC department, we can only accept bookings directly related to the university and its goals. While we encourage creative projects, personal work does not meet this requirement. We recommend exploring the Vancouver Public Library’s Inspiration Lab or the Chapman Learning Commons for alternative options.

A: Our DIY Recording Studio has a 10x10 ft green screen available for bookings. The green screen in our K. Karasin Studio is reserved for UBC Studios projects only.
